Cimarron Golf Resort

3-PLUS: Good course - several memorable features; worthy of 3½ stars.

Est. 2000

Cimarron Golf Resort: Although not a Golf Resort with onsite accommodation, Cimarron has everything else in place to ensure you enjoy "another beautiful day" at this 36-hole desert layout in Palm Springs.

Whether you are playing the championship Boulder course or the wonderfully sculpted, 18-hole par-3 Pebble course, all departments of your game will be thoroughly examined. If the wind is blowing across this open and exposed landscape, the examination becomes that much tougher. And don't expect too many trees, bushes, grassy dunes or significant elevation changes, in the wild desert openness of Cimarron. But do expect mountain vistas galore.

Housing does not intrude onto this blend of links and desert golf, where gently rolling, good-width fairways are flanked by wide expanses of desert rough, sandy waste areas and plenty of fairway bunkering. Water hazards are sparingly deployed, and really only threaten at the par-3 12th and the seriously water-surrounded par-3 17th. The holes are majestically framed by the towering San Jacinto mountains, which start their imposing climb to almost 11,000 feet just a couple of miles west of the course.

Cimarron's large, subtly sloping putting surfaces (some of the best in the Coachella Valley), and stylish bunkering around the greens, will require adept short game skills to card a good score. Without doubt a challenging, scenic and good-value course that's well worth a visit.

Did you know?

Cimarrón is named after its signature flower, a vibrant purple desert plant (which the green-keeping staff might be able to point out to you). Translated from Spanish, Cimarron means “wild and untamed”, which is an accurate description of the mountains and desert surrounding Palm Springs. >> Cimarron's sister-course, Woodhaven Country Club, is also a public-access golf facility (not yet featured in Where2Golf.com). It is located about 13 miles away in Palm Desert, just a mile south of I-10 taking the Washington Road exit.
