Barona Creek
Barona Creek Golf Club: Beneath the watchful gaze of the impressive Barona Creek Hotel & Casino building, Gary Roger Baird has laid out a stunning golf course. With all the openness and style of a top-class British links course (perhaps Muirfield even comes to mind), this impressive layout roams across a very natural and wide expanse of gently undulating terrain.
In a relatively treeless environment, each hole has been skilfully crafted, with a mass of stylish bunkering and occasional water hazards posing a threat. Stray beyond the nicely undulating, good-width fairways and clinging rough will have to be contended with. Stray way offline, and you'll be in the wide areas of boulder-strewn grassland that generously separate the holes.
Excellent maintenance, square-cut tee-boxes, rough-edged bunkering and many beautifully sweeping dog-leg holes are characteristic of this very quiet, natural and easy-walking layout. Beyond the white, ranch-style, three-rail fence that marks the course perimeter, the landscape is natural and rugged, stretching out to small ridges of hills, with housing conspicuous by its absence.
Among the excellent array of golf courses in the San Diego area, Barona Creek is up there with the best. A surprise package, with the chance to have a flutter in the casino after your round.

Barona Creek was established by the Barona Band of Mission Indians, part of the Kumeyaay Nation. After forced eviction from the area that now contains the El Capitan Reservoir (a few miles west of Barona Creek), they used their share of the proceeds to purchase the Barona Ranch. In the early 1990s, a bingo hall was opened at the location, which eventually grew into a full casino, known as The Big Top. In 2001, the casino was expanded to become the Barona Valley Ranch Resort & Casino, a $250 million complex incorporating a 1930s style California ranch theme. >> Barona Creek has already hosted many top level golf tournaments, including the PGA's Nationwide Tour. It is also an Audubon International Certified Signature Sanctuary, committed to the maintenance and development of the natural environment around the course.

The Masters: The 88th Masters Tournament at Augusta National sees LIV golfer Jon Rahm defend his title against the world’s best. Pressing hard will be world No.1 and 2022 champion Scottie Scheffler and world No.2 Rory McIlroy (April 11-14).
Chevron Championship: the women’s major championship season gets underway for the second year at its new Carlton Woods home outside Houston, Texas. World No.2 Lilia Vu defends (April 18-21).
Nelly Korda: records a perfect start to 2024 with four wins out of her last four appearances on the LPGA Tour, a feat last achieved by Lorena Ochoa in 2008. Korda's win at the T-Mobile Match Play brought up her 12th LPGA Tour victory.
Scottie Scheffler: narrowly missed out on matching Nelly Korda’s three-in-three, when he placed second at the Houston Open. This followed back-to-back wins at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players. Like Korda, he remains comfortably ahead in the official world golf rankings.
Marco Simone Golf & Country Club: With a clubhouse that might befit a Roman Emperor, and a golf course to match, you can be sure of a memorable outing at Rome's most talked about golf facility.
Jim Fazio's original layout was much changed to create a modern Ryder Cup course ... now one of the Eternal City's (and Italy's) most revered.
