Est. 1998

Cinnabar Hills Golf Club: Occupying fabulously scenic and undulating terrain in the foothills of the Santa Cruz mountains, Cinnabar Hills comprises 27 spectacular golf holes. The Lake and Mountain courses have most in common, both played over open, undulating terrain and providing fabulous views onto the surrounding hills, down to the Calero reservoir and across the Santa Clara valley. The Canyon nine is the more tree-lined of the three, with many tight and testing holes requiring accuracy rather than length from the tee.

On all three nines, you will enjoy and be challenged by many elevation changes as well as plenty of stylish bunkering, both along the fairways and especially around the greens. Unforgiving grassy rough and bushes lie in wait if you stray too far offline on the open undulations of the Lake and Mountain nines.

Water hazards threaten only occasionally, most dangerously at the par-4 3rd and par-5 7th on the Lake course, and the downhill par-4 2nd on the Canyon course. There is no housing at all within sight of these wonderfully rolling hills, allowing you to admire the naturalness of the surroundings and soak in those fabulous, ever-present vistas, which all three nines provide.

Inspiring the club's logo, red-tail hawks can often be seen flying over the course and perched in the wizened oak trees that are dotted around this immensely scenic and exciting layout.

Inside Cinnabar Hills' clubhouse, we thoroughly recommend you take time to browse the Brandenburg Historical Golf Museum. This fabulous private collection of golf memorabilia, belongs to Cinnabar Hills' majority owner, Lee Brandenburg. The collection includes many exhibits of historical interest as well as full-size replicas of the four men's Major trophies and the Ryder Cup - a truly impressive display.

Cinnabar Hills takes its name from the mineral known as cinnabar, which was mined in the surrounding area in the 1800s. Sometimes written cinnabarite, cinnabar is a relatively rare mineral that is often lipstick-red in colour. It is found in localities that yield mercury, and is the name applied to red mercury sulphide, or native vermilion, the common ore of mercury. Cinnabar is generally found in granular form, but can occur in crystal form, with resemblances to quartz.
