Front-nine orginally laid out by Robert Trent Jones Jr (1999) as part of the former Wentwood Hills course. These holes revamped and a new back-nine added by Colin Montgomerie (2006/07).

Leave the M4 motorway at exit 24. At roundabout just off motorway take the A48, direction Newport. After 200 metres turn right into Celtic Manor Resort.
Celtic Manor Resort (Montgomerie course): The Montgomerie course at Celtic Manor enjoys a reputation based on its excellent and challenging layout, as well as its wonderfully scenic outlooks. Ryder Cup legend Colin Montgomerie seamlessly combined eight former Wentwood Hills holes into a new design with ten new holes, to produce a thoroughly enjoyable golfing challenge, and a third championship layout at Celtic Manor.
Eight of the front-nine holes on the Montgomerie layout were originally part of the resort's Wentwood Hills course, designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. The middle section of Wentwood Hills was absorbed into the acclaimed Twenty Ten Ryder Cup course, but its opening holes (1-3) and closing stretch (13-18, excl 17) now essentially form the front-nine of the Montgomerie. In addition to refreshing these holes, Colin Montgomerie designed a new par-34 back-nine loop, laid out on the site of the former Coldra Woods Academy course.
The Montgomerie course is characterised by a generally open and scenic layout, where elevation change can be counted on at most holes. Many parts of the course exude an open, linksy feel, while a few stretches are more wooded and tree-lined. Grass-fronted crater-style bunkers, provide excellent defences on most holes. Water hazards are much scarcer, limited to one telling appearance in front of the green at the downhill par-4 10th.
Spectacular views also abound from the layout's higher elevations on the back-nine, with the Severn Bridge, Bristol Channel, and England behind it, much in view. Complemented by these panoramic views, this is a championship course that punches well above its par-69 weight.
Pick of the holes: among many great holes, the testing par-4 5th requires a drive threaded between trees to find a fairway that gently doglegs into a slightly elevated green. Of the two long par-5s on the front-nine, the wonderfully plunging 3rd is played to an immensely scenic "infinity green." From the green you'll enjoy views onto the Twenty Ten course and the picturesque River Usk valley.

Celtic Manor's former No.1 layout, the Wentwood Hills course, was effectively split in two when development of the new Twenty Ten Ryder Cup course got underway. Wentwood Hills' middle section, containing its lower lying holes in the River Usk valley floor, was incorporated into the Twenty Ten design; its opening and closing holes, which got you to and from the river, became the front-nine of the Montgomerie course. The back-nine of the Montgomerie course is laid out on the site of the former 18-hole Coldra Woods Academy course.

Here at Prince’s Golf Club you'll find 27 excellent holes of links golf. Just over the fence and sharing similar terrain is Royal St George’s; but Prince’s is far from overshadowed by its venerable neighbour. The three nine-hole loops at Prince's, laid out over gently undulating terrain, are sure to bring a smile of satisfaction to all lovers of links golf.
