Jack's Point Golf Course

5-star: Fabulous – courses don’t get much better than this.

Est. 2008

Jack's Point Golf Course: this relatively recent addition to the South Island's excellent array of championship courses, quickly established a name and reputation that reverberated around the golfing world. Superbly designed by John Darby, this fabulous out-and-back layout is complemented by jaw-dropping lake and mountain views.

If you're not looking up at the Remarkables mountain range, you are probably looking across the wide expanse of equally spectacular Lake Whakatipu. Blending into all this stunning scenery, is a layout that will thoroughly test your game. And there's some interesting linksy features along the way, not least a few dry stone walls to drive over.

Always undulating, always dramatic and scenic, Jack's Point exudes an open and classically linksy character. Nobody said golf was intended to be easy, which parts of this layout certainly aren't. But then again, no one said golf was supposed to be this scenic, which it most certainly is at Jack's Point.

The generally good-width fairways and all other playing surfaces are immaculately maintained. Little wonder Jack's Point is routinely putting a big smile on the faces of all who play here, while quietly reinforcing it's world-class reputation as an absolute "must play".

Did you know?

The "Jack" of Jack's Point is not as many believe something connected with the Golden Bear (Jack Nicklaus), but rather with a local Maori hero called Jack Tewa. In the winter of 1862, "Maori Jack" as he was known locally, risked his own life attempting to save two of his companions (Rogers and Mitchell) after their boat overturned on the lake in a freezing, violent squall. Although Rogers eventually succumbed to the appalling conditions, Jack's actions (and those of a mysterious collie dog) certainly saved Mitchell's life.
