The Grange Golf Club (West course)

4-star: Above average course - well worth a visit.

Est. 1926

The Grange Golf Club (West course): Separated at one point by just 200 yards from Royal Adelaide Golf Club, it is no surprise to find The Grange Golf Club occupying similar, sand-based, linksy terrain. Here the East and West courses roam across an expansive area, where partly open, partly tree-lined fairways make their way to well-bunkered greens.

The West course is the slightly older, fractionally longer and usually higher rated layout, which starts alongside the clubhouse fountain with a good-length gently doglegging par-5. The West's two nine-hole loops include firm, fast and gently rippling fairways. When trees are not providing definition to the holes, long grassy rough is likely to be present.

The slightly elevated putting surfaces create plenty of opportunity for bump and run shots, reinforcing the overall links-like qualities of this well-maintained and presented course. Big hitters will enjoy the spacious feel you get from the tee, but may underestimate the presence of good bunkering and sometimes penal rough flanking the good-width fairways.

Although there is not much too see beyond the course, the complete absence of housing and expansive area covered by the 36-holes, ensures a pleasant, spacious parkland feel throughout.

Without any on-course signage to guide you from green to next tee, make sure you don't accidentally switch to a hole that should come much later in the round, it has been known!
