Ellerston Golf Course

Private: A course for members and their invited guests only.

Est. 2001

Ellerston Golf Course: hidden away in the secluded high country of the Upper Hunter, the ultra exclusive Ellerston golf course remains the very private "playground" of one of Australia’s wealthiest families, the Packers.

Founder Kerry Packer's instructions to Australian golfing superstar and course designer Greg Norman were unequivocal. "Build me the toughest and most spectacular golf course in Australia". One imagines budgetary considerations took a back seat, as Norman set about designing a world-class course.

In every respect, from the superb and challenging design, faultless day-to-day conditioning, and sheer golfing exhilaration, Ellerston is (they say) a world-beater. But who's to know, except an elite few who have played there.

The majority of holes are laid out along a dramatic and fast-running stream (Pages Creek). Others meander into and through the spectacular and undulating terrain of the upland country. Beyond the course, the pristine rolling hills of the Upper Hunter play their very scenic part in this fabulous but very private project.

Did you know?

Ellerston was conceived by the late Kerry Packer (1937-2005) as an exclusive and world-class golf (and polo) facility for his family and invited guests. Kerry Packer, son of Australian media proprietor Sir Frank Packer, became one of Australia's most powerful media tycoons and, in his time, the richest man in Australia.

Beyond his media interests, Packer was best known for founding World Series Cricket, which helped transform and modernise the game, but at the time was considered an affront to the cricketing establishment and its controlling bodies.

Tournaments

The Masters: The 88th Masters Tournament at Augusta National sees LIV golfer Jon Rahm defend his title against the world’s best. Pressing hard will be world No.1 and 2022 champion Scottie Scheffler and world No.2 Rory McIlroy (April 11-14).

Chevron Championship: the women’s major championship season gets underway for the second year at its new Carlton Woods home outside Houston, Texas. World No.2 Lilia Vu defends (April 18-21).

Who's Who

Nelly Korda: records a perfect start to 2024 with four wins out of her last four appearances on the LPGA Tour, a feat last achieved by Lorena Ochoa in 2008. Korda's win at the T-Mobile Match Play brought up her 12th LPGA Tour victory.

Scottie Scheffler: narrowly missed out on matching Nelly Korda’s three-in-three, when he placed second at the Houston Open. This followed back-to-back wins at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players. Like Korda, he remains comfortably ahead in the official world golf rankings.

Marco Simone Golf & Country Club

Marco Simone Golf & Country Club: With a clubhouse that might befit a Roman Emperor, and a golf course to match, you can be sure of a memorable outing at Rome's most talked about golf facility.

Jim Fazio's original layout was much changed to create a modern Ryder Cup course ... now one of the Eternal City's (and Italy's) most revered.
