Original 12-hole course design by Willie Davis (1891), extended to 18-holes by Willie Dunn Jr (1894). This layout substantially redesigned by Charles B. Macdonald and Seth Raynor (1901).
A second substantial redesign was required when the course moved to the north side of the clubhouse (1931). Retaining only five holes from the Macdonald/Raynor layout, the new course was designed by William S. Flynn, with construction supervised by Howard C. Toomey. Apart from the two nine-hole loops being swapped around and some lengthening, the layout has remained largely unchanged since 1931.

Shinnecock Hills
Shinnecock Hills Golf Club, one of the five founding members of the USGA, is home to a championship course that ranks with the world's best. With the National Golf Links of America to the north and west, and Southampton Golf Club on its eastern border, Shinnecock is at the very heart of golf in "The Hamptons". Make no mistake, this "feared" championship course does not earn its stripes simply through the longevity of its existence.
Shinnecock's outstanding array of excellently crafted and challenging holes, many on view from the distinctive grey single-storey clubhouse, provide one of the toughest tests of all the venues on the U.S. Open roster. Here on wonderfully open rolling terrain there's everything you'd expect from a world-renowned links layout ... and quite a bit more.
There's hardly any trees to worry about, and just one water hazard (at the very challenging par-4 6th). However, beyond the good-width fairways lie reddish and straw coloured fescue grasses, as uncompromising as you'll have come across. The plethora of large fairway and steep-faced greenside bunkers create a serious intimidation factor on just about every hole, while the steep sloping green surrounds demand bump-and-run skills of the highest order.
Although the public Tuckahoe Road slices through part of the back-nine, this is a very private golf course and a true aristocrat amongst the world's elite courses. Generally playable only by the club's members and their guests, if you do ever get the chance to tee it up at Shinnecock, grab hold with both hands and savour every minute of this unique experience.

Shinnecock Hills is one of the five founding clubs of the United States Golf Association (USGA), together with Newport CC, The Country Club (Brookline), Chicago GC and Saint Andrew's.
Shinnecock Hills has hosted many top level tournaments and national championships. In its early days the club staged the second playing of the US Open and US Amateur Championships in 1896, as well as the US Women's Amateur Championship in 1900. More recently the club hosted the Walker Cup and further US Opens, including the 2018 US Open (see our Tournaments section >by Venue >Shinnecock Hills).

Chevron Championship: the women’s major championship season gets underway for the second year at its new Carlton Woods home outside Houston, Texas. World No.2 Lilia Vu defends (April 18-21).
Nelly Korda: records a perfect start to 2024 with five wins out of her last five starts on the LPGA Tour. Winning the Chevron Championship also brought the second major championship win of her career.
Scottie Scheffler: narrowly missed out on matching Nelly Korda's five wins in five starts, when he placed second at the Houston Open. Either side of that, he won The Arnold Palmer, The Players, and then The Masters and The Heritage.
Marco Simone Golf & Country Club: With a clubhouse that might befit a Roman Emperor, and a golf course to match, you can be sure of a memorable outing at Rome's most talked about golf facility.
Jim Fazio's original layout was much changed to create a modern Ryder Cup course ... now one of the Eternal City's (and Italy's) most revered.
Here at Prince’s Golf Club you'll find 27 excellent holes of links golf. Just over the fence and sharing similar terrain is Royal St George’s; but Prince’s is far from overshadowed by its venerable neighbour. The three nine-hole loops at Prince's, laid out over gently undulating terrain, are sure to bring a smile of satisfaction to all lovers of links golf.
