TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley (Heathlands course)

4-PLUS: Must play course - excellent standard; worthy of 4½ stars.

Est. 1992

TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley is home to three wonderfully contrasting 18-hole championship layouts: the links-style Heathlands course, the "Carolina-influenced" Hoot and the more parkland oriented North course. Each is ranked in Canada's Top100 courses, with all three layouts playing home to several pleasantly testing and stylishly crafted holes.

Renowned, perhaps more than its siblings, as one of the truest tests of golf in Ontario, the open links-style Heathlands course harks back to golf’s beginnings on the dune-swept sandhills of Scotland's east coast ... what's missing here is the cold North Sea!

Carrick's authentic and excellently crafted design is rightly regarded as one of his finest. He employs all the features of a great links layout, with an array of feeder slopes, mischievous pot bunkers, backstops and fairways that wind through fescue-covered mounds. The well-spaced holes never crowd each other as they journey across the gently rolling but never dramatically undulating terrain.

Pick of the holes: there are many, but look no further than the opening par-5 1st ... it gives you a great idea of what's to come. This belter of an open links-style hole is played through a valley of dunes and bunkers. It gets the round off to a flying links-style start, which is happily maintained throughout.

Did you know?

TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley (formerly known as the Osprey Valley Resorts) became Canada's first TPC facility in 2018. For all but its first year of its existence, Osprey Valley has been owned by brothers and real estate developers Roman and Jerry Humeniuk.

When the club opened in 1992, it had only one course, the links-style Heathlands. Less than a year later financial difficulties forced the original owner to sell to the Humeniuks, who operated the club as a family concern. In 2001 they added the Hoot and North (formerly Toot) courses.

The origins of the deal with the Tournament Players Club (TPC) was a by-product of Golf Canada’s search for courses in the Greater Toronto Area that would be willing and able to host future Canadian Open Championships.

Published ranking

Heathland course:
Canada's 56th best course (SCOREGolf, 2022) and 18th best public access course (SCOREGolf, 2023).

Tournaments

The Masters: The 88th Masters Tournament at Augusta National sees LIV golfer Jon Rahm defend his title against the world’s best. Pressing hard will be world No.1 and 2022 champion Scottie Scheffler and world No.2 Rory McIlroy (April 11-14).

Chevron Championship: the women’s major championship season gets underway for the second year at its new Carlton Woods home outside Houston, Texas. World No.2 Lilia Vu defends (April 18-21).

Who's Who

Nelly Korda: records a perfect start to 2024 with four wins out of her last four appearances on the LPGA Tour, a feat last achieved by Lorena Ochoa in 2008. Korda's win at the T-Mobile Match Play brought up her 12th LPGA Tour victory.

Scottie Scheffler: narrowly missed out on matching Nelly Korda’s three-in-three, when he placed second at the Houston Open. This followed back-to-back wins at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players. Like Korda, he remains comfortably ahead in the official world golf rankings.

Marco Simone Golf & Country Club

Marco Simone Golf & Country Club: With a clubhouse that might befit a Roman Emperor, and a golf course to match, you can be sure of a memorable outing at Rome's most talked about golf facility.
