Stonewall Golf Club at Lake Manassas

4-star: Above average course - well worth a visit.

Est. 2001

Stonewall Golf Club at Lake Manassas is home to a championship golf course that ranks with some of the best in Virginia. The layout includes several wonderful lakeside holes, and others that sit alongside a good-sized inlet from the lake.

Where the course wanders through residential areas, the upmarket homes are set well behind the treeline, well away from the good-width undulating fairways.

Opened in 2001, this tree-lined parkland course provides a wonderful test for your all-round game, with many attractive, skilfully crafted and challenging holes to enjoy. There's plenty of elevation change on this pleasantly undulating layout, and greens that are solidly defended by stylish bunkering.

To the east of Stonewall Golf Club, and also on the banks of Lake Manassas, you'll find the private and much revered Robert Trent Jones Golf Club. The course there is considered to be the great man's crowning masterpiece. It played host to the first four US-based Presidents Cups. Further to the east, before its permanent closure in 2017, lay the Virginia Oaks Golf Club course, which had three or four lakeside holes.

Stonewall GC is named after Brigadier General Thomas J. “Stonewall” Jackson (1824-63). He was one of the Confederate South’s best-known military leaders, and acknowledged by military historians as one of the most gifted tactical commanders in U.S. history. At the Battle of Chancellorsville on May 2, 1863 he was accidentally shot by his own side. He survived with the loss of an arm to amputation, but died of complications from pneumonia eight days later.
