Hardenberg Golf Resort (Niedersachsen course)

4-star: Above average course - well worth a visit.

Est. 1971

Hardenberg Golf Resort (Niedersachsen course): Here on the Count von Hardenberg’s estate you'll find two contrasting and well-rated championship courses. Both occupy undulating terrain, which ensure that both you and your golf game are given a thorough workout. The more "junior" Göttingen course is especially hilly.

These mainly open parkland layouts, especially the higher-rated Niedersachsen course, should not disappoint, with many attractive features and several excellent holes to enjoy. Plenty of golfing challenge and usually good upkeep contribute to the appeal of this well-crafted and pleasantly testing design.

Pick of the holes: the emblem of the Hardenberg family is a wild boar's head. You'll see it replicated at the downhill signature par-3 11th hole, where water as much as the tusk-and-ears bunkering pose a significant threat.

Did you know?

Hardenberg Golf Resort, owned by the Count of Hardenberg (Carl Graf von Hardenberg), comprises not just the golf facilities. Under the same ownership are two local hotels, the Hardenberg Burg Hotel (8 km from the golf) and Hotel Freigeist (11 km), as well as a number of local historic buildings of interest.

The two courses at Hardenberg Golf Resort are respectively named after the nearby university city of Göttingen and the German federal state of Niedersachsen (Lower Saxony), in which both the golf resort and city of Göttingen lie.

The state of Lower Saxony, together with Westphalia and western Saxony-Anhalt, formed what was once called Old Saxony, the original home of the Saxons. "New Saxony" referred to colonies in Britain, notably in Wessex, which were established by migrating Saxons from 450 AD onwards.
