Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex (Kampen course)

4-star: Above average course - well worth a visit.

Est. 1934

Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex (Kampen course): A firm fixture on Indiana's Pete Dye Golf Trail, the Kampen course is one of two championship layouts at Purdue University's golf facility ..... the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex. Once known as the North course, the Kampen layout was substantially redesigned by Pete Dye in 1994. The complex's Ackerman-Allen course (formerly the South course) is also benefitting from the legendary designer's attentions.

The original North course was typically regarded as Purdue University's No.2 layout, behind the South course. That all changed after Pete Dye's radical redesign allowed the re-launched Kampen course to assume top spot. Kampen is now rated one of the United State's best collegiate courses.

The links-style Kampen presents a challenge to golfers of all abilities. With its native grasslands, ponds and a natural celery bog, Kampen offers five sets of tees with the championship course stretching to over 7,400 yards. This modern championship layout is characterised by easy to walk terrain, vast fairway-hugging sand bunkers and large well-defended greens.

Did you know?

Birck Boilermaker's Ackerman-Allen course was originally known as the South course. The course was host to the NCAA Men's Golf Championships in 1961; Purdue won the team championship and Jack Nicklaus won the individual medal. The course is named in recognition of Jim and Lois Ackerman's support of Purdue University athletics. The Kampen course (formerly known as the North course) is named in honour of another big supporter of Purdue Athletics, Emerson Kampen, whose statue overlooks the 1st tee.

PETE DYE GOLF TRAIL: Established in 2011 to showcase seven of the great man's courses in Indiana, the Pete Dye Golf Trail comprises: Birck Boilermaker (Kampen course), Brickyard Crossing, French Lick (Pete Dye course), Maple Creek, Mystic Hills, Plum Creek and The Fort.

Referred to by many as the father of modern golf course architecture, Pete Dye made an indelible mark on the game of golf. After carefully studying golf courses in the British Isles, he honed his craft in Indiana, before going on to produce a raft of stunning designs, including TPC Sawgrass, Whistling Straits and Harbor Town. Dye designs, created by Pete, his wife Alice and their family, now span the globe.

Chevron Championship: the women’s major championship season gets underway for the second year at its new Carlton Woods home outside Houston, Texas. World No.2 Lilia Vu defends (April 18-21).

Who's Who

Nelly Korda: records a perfect start to 2024 with four wins out of her last four appearances on the LPGA Tour, a feat last achieved by Lorena Ochoa in 2008. Korda's win at the T-Mobile Match Play brought up her 12th LPGA Tour victory.

Scottie Scheffler: narrowly missed out on matching Nelly Korda’s three-in-three, when he placed second at the Houston Open. This followed back-to-back wins at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players. Like Korda, he remains comfortably ahead in the official world golf rankings.
