Gamble Sands Golf Course

4-PLUS: Must play course - excellent standard; worthy of 4½ stars.

Est. 2014

Gamble Sands Golf Course: located a three-hour drive east of Seattle in eastern Washington state, this relatively new "high desert" links layout is built on a sandy ridge overlooking the Columbia River. David McLay-Kidd's dramatic "minimalist" design is stunningly complemented by the layout's natural and spectacular setting.

Here at Gamble Sands you are treated to dramatic 360-degree panoramic views. Apple and cherry orchards sweep down to the impressive Columbia River, behind which sit the Cascade mountains. To the east, basalt hills and mountains provide a rugged backdrop. All around the course is open semi-arid desert, rich in stark scenery.

Sandy sub-soil provides the expansive roaming layout with excellent drainage. It also gave Kidd the opportunity to line the huge rolling fairways with sprawling bunkers and sandy waste areas, as well as traditional fescue grasses. Super wide fairways and massive greens make the course thoroughly playable for all skill levels.

Chip and run golf around the greens is handsomely catered for, while on the putting surfaces your skills with the "short stick" will be thoroughly examined. Rugged and fun rather than refined and fussy is how you might describe this wonderful links-style golf course.
