Sky Oasis Golf Resort (originally opening as Skyait Golf Club) is home to 36-holes of relatively open parkland golf, located 2.5 hours drive northeast of Kunming. The courses, mostly played by local golfers, seem to fly below the radar screen of international travelling golfers.
The lowland "A" course plays through and around wetlands on its front-nine, then rises to a pine-fringed mountainside on the back-nine. The "B" course lays down a tough challenge, a mountain-style layout that rises to a highland plateau where just about every club in your bag will be tested.
The showstopper at Sky Oasis, although not part of the two 18-hole layouts, is the stand-alone par-3 "Eagle" hole. This 150-metre visually stunning experience attempts to put Sky Oasis on the international golf map (not unlike the extreme hole did for the Legend course in South Africa).
With a green surround shaped like a spread eagle, the design creates a visually intriguing and fun hole to play after your round. Designed by US golf architect Cynthia Dye McGarey, niece of design legend Pete Dye, the eagle hole was conceived during a site survey for a possible additional course at Sky Oasis.
Visitors welcome on weekdays and weekends.
