Siam Country Club Pattaya (Rolling Hills course)

4-PLUS: Must play course - excellent standard; worthy of 4½ stars.

Est. 2020

The Rolling Hills course at Siam Country Club, Pattaya is the newest offering at this prestigious and much-admired golf club in Thailand. The layout, comprising two nine-hole loops, has its similarities and differences with its three stablemates ... the Old, Plantation and Waterside courses.

Here at Rolling Hills you will find a hybrid of traditional open parkland elements and more modern expressions. Large waste areas planted with casuarina trees blend with pine straw forest, sandy waste areas, marsh lands, and grass-fronted and railway-sleeper bunkers.

On the layout's more "rolling" back-nine several water hazards also come into play. As is the case with all Siam Country Club courses, the Rolling Hills layout is not burdened by real estate on its boundaries, and so creates an enjoyably natural golf experience.

Pick of the holes: the par-5 15th (Wall of Death) plays uphill along a double dog-leg fairway to a green guarded by a 19-foot pit bunker. Also noteworthy is the 18th, which wraps around a lake to bring you to another of Siam Country Club's impressive clubhouses.

Siam Country Club now offers four excellent championship courses. The original and much revered Old course opened for play in 1971. Located just a few kilometres to the east is the Plantation course, which dates from 2008. The most recent additions are the Waterside course (2014), located between the Old and Plantation layouts, and the Rolling Hills course (2020), which sits just below the Old course.

Tournaments

The Masters: The 88th Masters Tournament at Augusta National sees LIV golfer Jon Rahm defend his title against the world’s best. Pressing hard will be world No.1 and 2022 champion Scottie Scheffler and world No.2 Rory McIlroy (April 11-14).

Chevron Championship: the women’s major championship season gets underway for the second year at its new Carlton Woods home outside Houston, Texas. World No.2 Lilia Vu defends (April 18-21).

Who's Who

Nelly Korda: records a perfect start to 2024 with four wins out of her last four appearances on the LPGA Tour, a feat last achieved by Lorena Ochoa in 2008. Korda's win at the T-Mobile Match Play brought up her 12th LPGA Tour victory.

Scottie Scheffler: narrowly missed out on matching Nelly Korda’s three-in-three, when he placed second at the Houston Open. This followed back-to-back wins at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players. Like Korda, he remains comfortably ahead in the official world golf rankings.

Marco Simone Golf & Country Club

Marco Simone Golf & Country Club: With a clubhouse that might befit a Roman Emperor, and a golf course to match, you can be sure of a memorable outing at Rome's most talked about golf facility.

Jim Fazio's original layout was much changed to create a modern Ryder Cup course ... now one of the Eternal City's (and Italy's) most revered.
