Isle of Harris Golf Club

3-PLUS: Good course - several memorable features; worthy of 3½ stars.

Est. 1935

Isle of Harris Golf Club is home to the "Scarista" golf course, a stunningly located nine-hole links course that sits alongside the Sound of Taransay as it reaches out into the Atlantic Ocean. All down the west side of the course stretch the white sands, typical of this part of the Hebrides.

Although only a nine-hole course many of the holes will test good shot-makers and higher-handicappers alike, with more than a few natural hazards. Among its many fans, Scarista can count the likes of Nick Faldo and Ronan Rafferty.

The natural surroundings here are fabulous, and wonderfully complemented by the extensive birdlife, wildlife, unique culture, music, language and arts, which make Harris such a sought after and unique destination.

Did you know?

The Isle of Harris is more correctly named Lewis and Harris ... the largest island in Scotland and third largest in the British Isles, after Great Britain and Ireland. The northern part of the island is known as Lewis, the southern part as Harris. Both are frequently but incorrectly described as if they were separate islands.

The island of Lewis and Harris is part of the Outer Hebrides, an island chain off the west coast of mainland Scotland, also referred to as the Western Isles (Innse Gail) and much less frequently as Long Isle or Long Island.
