Castletown Golf Links

4-star: Above average course - well worth a visit.

Est. 1892

Castletown Golf Links: For golfers wishing to play one of the British Isles' most spectacular seaside courses, a journey to the Isle of Man (in the middle of the Irish Sea) will be required. In the south-east corner of the island, occupying most of the Langness Peninsula (known locally as Fort Island), Castletown Links enjoys a unique setting, with uninterrupted sea views from just about every hole.

On this relatively flat and treeless terrain, the course combines the style of a clifftop course with many attributes found on more classical duneland layouts. There's an abundance of revetted bunkers, bumps, hollows, slick run-offs around the greens and tracts of long grassy rough lining the fairways. Also in keeping with its seaside links cousins, the wind here can range from a light breeze to a storm-force gale - so try to catch this wonderful course on a balmy summer's day, if you can.

Pick of the holes: There are many outstanding holes in the layout, amongst them a testing collection of three par-3s. The course is also home to Castletown's very own ‘Road Hole’, the par-4 5th. At 423-yards and bending round from left to right, it is flanked by out of bounds (the road and beach) on your right, and thick gorse bushes on your left. Another much discussed hole is the par-4 17th (the "Gully"), with an intimidating drive required over a deep ravine; rocks and the swirling sea await anything hit short from the tee.
