Where2Golf says:
Delamere Forest Golf Club: You’ll be disappointed if you come here expecting a forest setting and plenty of tree-lined fairways. However, what you will get is a wonderfully natural and undulating heathland course that will challenge all the facets of your game. There’s plenty of gorse and some heather on this relatively open layout, which boasts excellent fairways and greens. The folding terrain creates a number of blind drives as well as some longish carries from some tees; it also ensures the leg muscles will receive a healthy stretch, although nothing too severe. A great time to visit is late Spring, with rhododendrons adding even more colour to this delightfully natural setting. With its long pedigree of hosting top level county competitions, this is one of the best courses in Cheshire - a real heathland gem just waiting to be discovered.

The club was founded in 1910, reputedly in a hunting field, and the early list of members reads like an extract from the Cheshire Hunt register. It was the venue for the first Cheshire County Championship in 1921, an event which has been held here on another eight subsequent occasions. In 1967 Delamere Forest was one of two qualifying courses for the Open Championship when it was held at Hoylake, the home of the Royal Liverpool Golf Club. At that time, Maurice Bembridge posted the Professional Course Record of 63 which exists to this day. In May the rhododendrons bring a big splash of extra colour to the course.

Koksijde Golf ter Hille Golf Club: on what was previously open farmland, an enjoyable and challenging links-style layout has been crafted. Perhaps the inspiration for Koksijde's new course came from a renowned Harry Colt layout that existed in the 1920s just a couple of kilometres to the west. Read more... |
The Duke Golf Club: represents the latest in a trio of private courses to arrive on the Dutch golfing scene. All prefixed by the definite article, The Dutch (2010, designer Colin Montgomerie) and The International (2012, Ian Woosnam) have now been joined by The Duke, which firmly targets a business clientele and the corporate golf market. Drentse Golfclub De Gelpenberg: as the oldest golf course in the Dutch province of Drenthe, De Gelpenberg offers a partly-wooded and partly-open heathland layout, guaranteed to test all facets of your game. It is arguably the best of the country's more northerly layouts, together with Lauswolt (50 km away to the north-west). Read more... |
