Slaley Hall (Priestman course)

3-PLUS: Good course - several memorable features; worthy of 3½ stars.

Est. 1999

Slaley Hall (Priestman course): Stately Slaley Hall (now a much extended Stay&Play resort hotel) is located just six miles southeast of the Northumbrian market town of Hexham. Here you'll find two excellent and contrasting parkland golf courses. The newer Priestman course has a more open feel than its companion Hunting course, and lays down its own array of golfing challenges.

This expansive and rangy layout will accommodate big-hitters and strategists alike. Several water hazards and plenty of stylish bunkering will need to be carefully negotiated, while the generally good-width open fairways should inspire confidence from the tee; more so than on the often tighter and more challenging Hunting course.

From the Priestman course you'll enjoy expansive views over stunning Northumberland countryside, with the beautiful Tyne Valley much in evidence. If you are visiting Slaley Hall don't overlook this excellent golf course, even though it's generally regarded as second in line to the more renowned Hunting layout.

Stay&Play at Slaley Hall: luxury onsite accommodation available, see Where2Stay section below.

Did you know?

For several years the Priestman course was home to the Northumberland Seniors Classic, a European Senior Tour event (see our Tournaments section >by Venue >Slaley Hall).

The course itself is named after the second owners of Slaley Hall, the Priestman family, who owned the Hall until 1984 when it was sold for development into the current hotel and golf complex.

The original castle-like Victorian mansion, complete with 'defensive' battlements and once the centre of a glorious sporting estate, was much extended in the 1980s to create a large resort hotel and golf complex. Set in 1,000 acres of the finest Northumberland moorland and forest, Slaley Hall is now one of England's best known luxury hotel and golf resorts. The 18th green on the Hunting course provides one of the best vantage points from which to appreciate the fine structure of the original Hall.

Tournaments

The Masters: The 88th Masters Tournament at Augusta National sees LIV golfer Jon Rahm defend his title against the world’s best. Pressing hard will be world No.1 and 2022 champion Scottie Scheffler and world No.2 Rory McIlroy (April 11-14).

Chevron Championship: the women’s major championship season gets underway for the second year at its new Carlton Woods home outside Houston, Texas. World No.2 Lilia Vu defends (April 18-21).

Who's Who

Nelly Korda: records a perfect start to 2024 with four wins out of her last four appearances on the LPGA Tour, a feat last achieved by Lorena Ochoa in 2008. Korda's win at the T-Mobile Match Play brought up her 12th LPGA Tour victory.

Scottie Scheffler: narrowly missed out on matching Nelly Korda’s three-in-three, when he placed second at the Houston Open. This followed back-to-back wins at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players. Like Korda, he remains comfortably ahead in the official world golf rankings.

Marco Simone Golf & Country Club

Marco Simone Golf & Country Club: With a clubhouse that might befit a Roman Emperor, and a golf course to match, you can be sure of a memorable outing at Rome's most talked about golf facility.

Jim Fazio's original layout was much changed to create a modern Ryder Cup course ... now one of the Eternal City's (and Italy's) most revered.

Prince's Golf Club, Kent (UK)
