Where2Golf says:

St Enodoc Golf Club (Church Course): One of Britain's best loved poets laureate, Sir John Betjeman, was also a long-time member of St Enodoc. It's easy to imagine how the rolling fairways of this fabulous links course inspired Sir John to write his classic poem "Seaside Golf." As the poem's final verse goes: "Ah! Seaweed smells from sandy caves, And thyme and mist in whiffs; In-coming tide, Atlantic waves, Slapping the sunny cliffs; Lark song and sea sounds in the air, And splendour, splendour everywhere". This is indeed a layout full of splendour, as well as many golfing challenges and stunning Atlantic Ocean views.

Here at St Enodoc you will find classic duneland golf accompanied by wonderful ocean vistas and challenges to test all facets of your game. The open links course is routed across relatively hilly, undulating terrain, ensuring no two holes play the same. Although not long by today's standards, the layout can feel quite tight, especially with a sea breeze blowing, and penal rough waiting to catch wayward drives.

"How straight it flew, how long it flew, It clear'd the rutty track; And soaring, disappeared from view, Beyond the bunker's back; A glorious, sailing, bounding drive, That made me glad I was alive." If you can hit your drives in the manner of the poem's opening verse, then you will certainly be glad to be alive, and revel in the opportunities presented by St Enodoc's tumbling fairways, firm greens and occasional blind shots.

St Enodoc is one of the finest and most memorable links courses in England, offering delightful views along the rugged Cornish coast, across the Camel estuary and into nearby Padstow. Two other features to look out for: just beyond the 10th hole is a 12th century Church with a crooked spire; it is here that Betjeman is buried. You also can't miss the Himalayan-size dune at the par-4 6th, which houses one of the most cavernous bunkers you'll find on a golf course.
