Estonia Golf & Country Club (Sea course)

4-star: Above average course - well worth a visit.

Est. 2005

Estonia Golf & Country Club, home to the 18-hole championship Sea course and 9-hole Stone course, is located alongside the estuary of the Jägala River, a short drive from Estonia's capital city of Tallinn. Rated amongst the top 100 courses in continental Europe, the Sea course occupies a wonderfully natural setting, with many of the holes played through pristine woodland.

The Sea Course, stretching out to over 7,000 yards from the tips, is a true championship golf course. The impressive layout occupies unspoiled forest, whilst also reaching out to the beach and playing along the Jägala River. With an overall elevation change of 40 metres, oak alleys, ancient boulders, and natural ponds adorn this excellent golf course.

The signature short par-4 3rd hole, played downhill from an elevated tee, serves up a glorious view onto the Gulf of Finland's Ihasalu Bay. This more open part of the course is revisited as you play the also stunning par-5 15th, which starts alongside the Jägala River before expansive wetlands take-over as you near the Bay.

The clubhouse at Estonian G&CC was designed in the form of a large modern barn-dwelling, situated on the edge of a limestone bank.

The country of Estonia declared and fought for its independence from Russia in 1918, during the time of the Bolshevik takeover in Russia and German advances into Russia during the First World War. Ethnic Estonians have historically shared close cultural ties with their northern neighbour, Finland. The official language of Estonia, Estonian, is closely related to Finnish.

Traigh Golf Course (pronounced "try", and meaning "beach" in Gaelic): You'll find this nine-hole seaside gem on the scenic coast road (as opposed to the more inland and quicker A830) between Arisaig and Morar. Although not on the well-beaten path of Scotland's "trophy" courses, if you are passing through this area, it's a must play.
