Best Stay & Play Golf Resorts in Europe

Countries in Europe are home to a number of stay and play golf resorts; but as you would imagine, some are better than the rest. We have compiled a list of the best stay and play golf courses in 26 countries, each offering high-quality golfing opportunities and its own unique selling proposition as far as accommodation and leisure services are concerned.

Look at our complete line-up for your upcoming and future holidays. The resorts' contact details are mentioned on their respective page, so you can make inquiries and bookings conveniently.

If the chief motive of your Spain vacation is to tee off at a spectacular golf course and wind down at a comfortable hotel room or resort suite, the options are diverse. Our picks include the much-lauded El Saler with its challenging holes and the four-star Parador El Saler offering Mediterranean views, spa facilities and a grass football pitch, as well as the Alcaidesa Links Resort whose stunning layout and views of the Rock of Gibraltar beckon golfers by the droves who may either stay at a nearby 4-star hotel with poolside bar and conference room or settle for the homely feel of a hotel-apartment with private terrace or balcony.

When in Switzerland, you may want to test your skills at the Golf & Country Club de Bonmont with its panoramic views of the Alps and well-maintained parkland terrain, and play a few rounds at the 18-hole championship golf course of nearby Domaine de Divonne Grand Hotel/Casino, where your kids can watch movies at the theater while your wife relaxes at the spa or bar.

The best stay and play golf resorts in the United Kingdom offer tournament pedigree layouts in luxurious settings. Golfers have a choice of three and four star hotels, some simple dormy rooms, a few operating out of restored Victorian castles, and a couple of opulent five-star lodges with banqueting facilities or sprawling estate homes with well-maintained greens and elegance galore.

Add joie de vivre to your French stay and play golf experience by booking accommodations at luxury hotels amidst beautiful Bordeaux vineyards. Our French picks include the Golf National's Albatros course, widely regarded as the country's best – whose multiple water hazards, undulating terrain and dune-like mounding – bring out the best in committed golfers, and Omaha Beach, a popular stop to explore the lovely Normandy coast and a short distance away from historic attractions and harborside restaurants.

If your Italian vacation includes Firenze, spend a few quality hours at Poggio dei Medici Golf Club, one of Europe's finest inland golf courses set in the beautiful Mugello hills, and make the most of the luxurious accommodation at the resort, which includes a Turkish bath, Jacuzzi and a huge restaurant. Rome's Argentario Golf Resort & Spa is another option, boasting a natural landscape of charming countryside, olive groves and cork forests, as well as top-tier spa facilities, including saunas, thalasso tubs, steam baths and a solarium.

Planning a few rounds of golf during your extended business trip in Belgium? The choice is not extensive, but the best stay and play destinations are on our list, including Royal Zoute Golf Club, one of Europe's highly regarded coastal layouts and Golf Club de Pierpont, an interesting golf course designed from open farmland located close to a three-star hotel delivering all the charm of countryside living.

Walton Heath Golf Club (Old course): Top golfers and golf writers have long acknowledged Walton Heath as one of the finest heathland courses in the British Isles. In fact there are two courses here, the Old and New. Read more...
The Welcombe Hotel Spa & Golf Club: provides an excellent Stay & Play opportunity, just a mile out of town from William Shakespear's birthplace in the centre of Stratford. The golf course, laid out in the grounds of a sumptuous stately mansion (now hotel), offers many undulating and stylishly crafted golf holes. Read more...
Royal Ostend Golf Club: represents Belgium’s only real "beside-the-seaside" links golf course (others like Royal Zoute are located a little way inland). Here at Ostend many holes make excellent use of an impressive area of sand dunes. From the long par-4 5th through to the par-5 14th, you play across fabulously open and gently undulating golfing terrain, with few trees, fine sea views and probably a bit of North Sea wind thrown in for good measure.

Koksijde Golf ter Hille Golf Club: on what was previously open farmland, an enjoyable and challenging links-style layout has been crafted. Perhaps the inspiration for Koksijde's new course came from a renowned Harry Colt layout that existed in the 1920s just a couple of kilometres to the west. Read more...
