Where2Golf says:

Hombre Golf Club: With the Club and its 27-holes named after two legendary films, its perhaps no surprise to find owner and course designer Wes Burnham is a fan of Westerns - like the gunslingers in The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, each of Hombre's three nine-hole loops has its own indelible character, with the Good-nine arguably winning out over the Bad and Ugly - furthest from the clubhouse, the newer Good-nine is more open and linksy, with mounding rather than trees and abundant water hazards separating many of the holes - if you want to take on and beat the Bad and Ugly nines, you'll need accuracy from the tee and good approach play - tightish tree-lined fairways need to be respected, while only at the par-4 5th (Bad) and par-4 6th and 7th (Ugly) will you get a respite from ever-present water hazards - on several occasions a testing carry across water onto the green will be required, not least at the island-green par-3 7th (Bad); attractive, though seriously water-protected par-3 2nd (Ugly) and the challenging par-5 8th (Ugly) - unlike Messrs Eastwood, Van Cleef and Wallach in the film, here you'll find excellent presentation standards, which includes stylish, sharp-edged bunkering and tip-top greens - you'll probably not encounter many golf course's where nine holes claim to be Bad and another nine Ugly, but for just a "few dollars more" you're game will be thoroughly tested on this well-groomed, enjoyable layout.

Did you know?

No surprise to find that Hombre's owner and course designer Wes Burnham is a fan of Western films. The Club takes its name from the 1967 epic, which starred Paul Newman. The 1966 Sergio Leone epic, and most celebrated of the spaghetti westerns, gives each of the nine-hole loops its name. The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (or in Italian: Il buono, il brutto, il cattivo) memorably starred Clint Eastwood, Lee Van Cleef and Eli Wallach in the title roles. As the billboard posters stated, for these three characters "the Civil War wasn't Hell. It was practice".

Tournaments:
Walker Cup: The USA scored a convincing 15.5-10.5 win over their GB&I opponents in the 47th Walker Cup at Royal Liverpool. The USA amateurs won all but two of the Sunday singles matches.
Solheim Cup:  can Europe’s top women professional golfers fair better at Gleneagles than they did in their 2017 Solheim Cup encounter with the USA. (Sept 13-15).
Who's Who:
Brian Barnes:  one of the most colourful Scottish golfers of the modern era sadly passed away. Few others can boast two matchplay wins against Jack Nicklaus … on the same day!
Steve Stricker:  three-time Ryder Cup player and 12-time PGA Tour winner, defends his PGA Tour Champions, Sanford International title at Minnehaha CC (Sept 20-22).
