Where2Golf says:

Orange County National (Crooked Cat course): one of the great golfing gems around Orlando, boasting two excellent championship courses and a stunning practice facility. The Crooked Cat, as distinct from its bigger and tougher feline sister, the Panther Lake course, is not a typical central Florida layout, as you'll quickly discover. An open links-like environment, with few trees, plenty of mounding and copious bunkering, successfully creates something of a Scottish feel to this particular Cat.

Although only 20 minutes or so from the centre of Orlando, there is a real touch of wilderness out here. No houses intrude on the course and there are several stretches with Floridian marshland and wasteland in view, not to mention a large orange grove that skirts much of the back-nine. The Crooked Cat is a real joy to play; a layout that will fully hold your interest and one that keeps throwing down different golfing challenges as your round progresses. If you can purr your way round this feline 18-holer, then its perhaps time to get ready for the tougher challenges of the Panther, and just hope you get round without too serious a mauling.

Where2Golf spotlights

Tournaments:
Walker Cup: The USA scored a convincing 15.5-10.5 win over their GB&I opponents in the 47th Walker Cup at Royal Liverpool. The USA amateurs won all but two of the Sunday singles matches.
Solheim Cup:  can Europe’s top women professional golfers fair better at Gleneagles than they did in their 2017 Solheim Cup encounter with the USA. (Sept 13-15).
Who's Who:
Brian Barnes:  one of the most colourful Scottish golfers of the modern era sadly passed away. Few others can boast two matchplay wins against Jack Nicklaus … on the same day!
Steve Stricker:  three-time Ryder Cup player and 12-time PGA Tour winner, defends his PGA Tour Champions, Sanford International title at Minnehaha CC (Sept 20-22).
