Sandridge Golf Club (Dunes course)

4-star: Above average course - well worth a visit.

Est. 1987

Sandridge Golf Club (Dunes course): In the quiet tranquillity of Kiwanis-Hobart Park, Sandridge Golf Club boasts two excellent quality golf layouts. The longer, tighter and oftentimes more challenging Dunes course is used for top-level competition play and most clearly displays the underlying sandy ridge which gives the Club its name.

In addition to many expansive sandy waste areas, both nine-hole loops on the Dunes layout involve significant brushes with water. The front-nine (with water absent on only three holes) contains the testing island-green par-3 6th.

The fabulous sand-based back-nine (played closest to Florida's east-coast sand ridge) boasts a great stretch of closing holes, characterised by an occasionally undulating, linksy openness.

From the doglegging par-5 12th through to the closing good-length par-5 18th, expansive sandy waste areas and two good-sized lakes conspire to punish errant drives and approach shots. Although blessed with abundant sand, but perhaps influenced by speed of play considerations, bunkering is relatively subdued around the nicely mounded greens.

As with its companion and also well-maintained Lakes course, the Dunes benefits from a very natural, house-free setting, where a combination of woodland, wetland and exposed sand areas create a very attractive golfing environment.

Did you know?

Sandridge Golf Club is owned and operated as a public facility by Indian River County, and is recognized as one of the finest golf facilities on Florida's Treasure Coast.

The name "Treasure Coast" is applied to a 60-mile stretch of Florida's eastern seaboard, which runs from Sebastian in the north, down to just south of Hobe Sound. The name derives from the many Spanish galleons that were wrecked off this stretch of coastline during the 17th and 18th centuries. Many artefacts from these ships have been recovered by amateur and professional treasure-hunters.

Tournaments

The Masters: The 88th Masters Tournament at Augusta National sees LIV golfer Jon Rahm defend his title against the world’s best. Pressing hard will be world No.1 and 2022 champion Scottie Scheffler and world No.2 Rory McIlroy (April 11-14).

Chevron Championship: the women’s major championship season gets underway for the second year at its new Carlton Woods home outside Houston, Texas. World No.2 Lilia Vu defends (April 18-21).

Who's Who

Nelly Korda: records a perfect start to 2024 with four wins out of her last four appearances on the LPGA Tour, a feat last achieved by Lorena Ochoa in 2008. Korda's win at the T-Mobile Match Play brought up her 12th LPGA Tour victory.

Scottie Scheffler: narrowly missed out on matching Nelly Korda’s three-in-three, when he placed second at the Houston Open. This followed back-to-back wins at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players. Like Korda, he remains comfortably ahead in the official world golf rankings.

Marco Simone Golf & Country Club

Marco Simone Golf & Country Club: With a clubhouse that might befit a Roman Emperor, and a golf course to match, you can be sure of a memorable outing at Rome's most talked about golf facility.

Jim Fazio's original layout was much changed to create a modern Ryder Cup course ... now one of the Eternal City's (and Italy's) most revered.
