Waldorf Astoria Golf Club

4+ (4 gold): one of our top-rated 4-star courses, worthy of 4½ stars.
Waldorf Astoria Golf Club Est. 2009

Where2Golf says:

Waldorf Astoria Golf Club: Located close to Walt Disney World's Caribbean Beach Resort, this relative newcomer to the Orlando golfing scene handsomely winds its way through a large wetland preserve. The well-crafted Rees Jones design contains plenty of golfing challenge, infused by an abundance of water hazards and stylish bunkering.

Majestic stands of pine and cypress trees line the fairways, as do three lakes, which are brought into play on over half the holes. The fairways and greens are solidly defended by sprawling bunkers, reminiscent of hazards found on courses "a century ago". Pleasingly, there's not a house to be seen around this resort-style layout, although the Waldorf Astoria and Hilton Bonnet Creek hotels do loom large in the northeast corner of the course.

Stay & Play at Waldorf Astoria: luxury onsite accommodation available, see Where2Stay section below.

Did you know?

Bonnet Creek is a small but important water course that flows from Bay Lake through the Walt Disney World Resort, before heading south across I-4 and on through the town of Celebration. The Bonnet Creek Resort, with its Waldorf Astoria, Hilton and Wyndham hotels is an enclave in the southeast corner of Walt Disney World, but is not owned by Disney.

Waldorf-Astoria hotels have their origins in the legendary Astor dynasty, which dates back to John Jacob Astor, who migrated to the US from Walldorf in Germany. When he died in 1848, his fur trading, real estate and opium businesses had made Astor the richest man in the USA.

Astor's great grandson, William Waldorf Astor, built the original 13-story Waldorf Hotel in 1893; it quickly became a gathering place for the world's wealthy elite. Four years later, Waldorf's cousin, John Jacob Astor IV built the adjoining 17-storey Astoria Hotel. In the early 1930s the Waldorf and Astoria were relocated from their original Fifth Avenue site, to make way for the Empire State Building. In a new 47-storey building on Park Avenue, the Waldorf-Astoria hotel was launched in 1931, and later bought by Conrad Hilton in 1949.
