Where2Golf says:

Sperone Golf Club is home to a wonderfully scenic golf course, located on cliffs directly above an azure blue sea. From here you are offered spectacular views onto the Mediterranean and across to the island of Cavallo, the Lavezzi archipelago and Sardinia (10 km to the south). On the back-nine, much of which is played at the cliffs' edge, you also look down onto the sandy beaches and rocky headlands of Corsica's most southerly shoreline.

As with most Robert Trent Jones Sr designs, you are tested on a skilfully crafted layout that is both fair and challenging. This open parkland and undulating course, with its rolling fairways, is defended by plenty of threatening bunkers that stylishly add to the course's many challenges.

Sperone's signature hole, the par-5 16th, comes at the end of a fabulous six-hole cliff-top stretch. You tee off from a small headland (the southernmost tip of Corsica). The view over the Bay of Piantarella from here, with its luxury yachts, surfers and the Lavezzi archipelago is unbeatable. Also in the scene, as you play along the cliff's edge, is the offshore island of Cavallo, also known as "Millionaires' Island".

Sperone is a must play course if you are visiting Corsica. It guarantees an unforgettable golf experience. Playing to your handicap, especially on a windy day, is tough and probably not achievable on a first visit. But the layout and the Mediterranean panoramas will have you coming back for more whenever you can.

Did you know?

The nearby city of Bonifacio, founded in 828 AD by Count Bonifacio of Tuscany, is famous for its picturesque port, Genoese citadel, chalky cliffs and sea caves. This ancient city is the most visited in Corsica. In the Old Town you'll find a labyrinth of narrow streets and historic buildings built by the Genoese. Bonifacio also boasts a busy marina, chic bars, excellent restaurants and many hotels. A unique, bustling and always fascinating coastal resort.

Koksijde Golf ter Hille Golf Club: on what was previously open farmland, an enjoyable and challenging links-style layout has been crafted.
