Where2Golf says:

Golf Country Club Cannes-Mougins is home to a championship golf course that ranks with some of the best in France. This Peter Alliss/Clive Clark design is located in a splendid woodland environment, where one good hole follows another in an uncomplicated out-and-back design.

Generally good-width fairways lead you to large and fast greens. If your game hasn't held together by the 14th hole, just look back towards the high Alps for that little bit of extra inspiration. At the 18th you play directly alongside the club's wonderful clubhouse. Interesting to note this former oil mill dates back to the 17th century. A roman-style aqueduct, the arches of which we can still be seen, brought water to the mill.

The likes of Seve Ballesteros, Ian Woosnam and Greg Norman have all benefitted from winning here at Cannes-Mougins. You will doubtless also enjoy yourself, as they did, although probably without the presentation of a big cheque at the end of the day. Certainly not a course to miss when you are on the Cote D'Azur, and perhaps one whose charms will have you coming back time and time again.

Did you know?

Although the Cannes-Mougins Golf Country Club was established in 1977, its origins can be found in the Cannes Country Club, which was founded in 1923 by the likes of the Aga Khan, Prince Pierre of Monaco and Baron Edouard de Rothschild. The club's fortunes fluctuated over the years, until a significant relaunch in 1977, with a completely redesigned golf course (by Peter Alliss and Clive Clark) opening the following year. | Cannes-Mougins has hosted many top level tournaments including the European Tour's Cannes Open (see our Tournaments section >by Venue >Cannes-Mougins).

Tournaments:
The American Express formerly known as the Desert Classic, and for many years played as the Bob Hope Desert Classic, will once again be decided on the Pete Dye designed Stadium course at PGA West (Jan 16-19).
The Players Championship:  for the 39th time, TPC Sawgrass, another iconic Pete Dye design, will host The Players Championship for one of the richest first prizes in world golf (March 12-15).

Who's Who:
Pete Dye:  one of the greatest golf course architects of this or any generation passes away aged 94. His contribution to golf course design, and the legacy he leaves is immense.
Jack Nicklaus:  like Pete Dye a native of Ohio, actually started his golf course design career working together with Dye. In 1967 Dye asked Nicklaus to input to his design for The Golf Club in Columbus, Ohio. Two years later they worked together on the revered Harbour Town Golf Links in South Carolina.
