Where2Golf says:

Dolce Frégate Golf Club: Fully capturing the spirit of Provence, Dolce Fregate's excellent golf facilities include an inspiring 18-hole championship course, complemented by the 9-hole Fregalon course. Laid out against a backdrop of vineyards, wooded hills and occasional rocky outcrops, many holes are blessed with stunning sea views out across the Mediterranean.

Hilly and challenging from first to last, there are some serious elevation changes to cope with, as well as tight drives to make (a couple of them blind). Taken together, the 18 holes will test every facet of your game. Individually they each throw up their own challenges, as well as a host of spectacular ocean and inland vistas.

Amongst many excellent holes, the fabulously scenic downhill par-4 10th requires a precise drive out towards the Bay de la Moutte. It is followed by the equally dramatic uphill par-5 11th, with some interesting terrace walls to drive over from the tee. Another sumptuous uphill-downhill duo are the par-4 17th and par-4 18th, where you'll see (for the first time) the resort's Provence-style village. Most holes are well-crafted golfing gems, although it appears the undulating landscape forced the inclusion of one or two "quirkier" holes into Fream's design.

Flanking the leftside of the par-4 18th is an extravagant cascade of ponds, palms and cypresses, providing a climactic finish to this very challenging but immensely scenic layout. One of the Cote D'Azur's must-play courses, but not necessarily one where you'll score well first time out.

Did you know?

Historically, a fregate (in English frigate) was a sailing warship, of a size just below that of a ship of the line (the main and most heavily armoured fighting ships). | Just over 2 km from Dolce Fregate is the fishing village of Bandol, which gives its name to one of Provence's most internationally recognised wine regions. The Bandol AOC (appellation d’origine contrôlée) covers production from eight neighbouring communes, whose limestone soil and warm, coastal climate is ideally suited for the late ripening Mourvedre grape. The Mourvedre accounts for at least 50% of the composition of most red and rose wines from this area.
