Olympic Games Men's Individual golf event (Jul 29-Aug 1; postponed from 2020 due to global coronavirus pandemic; Summer Olympic Games XXXII). Gold-medal winner Xander Schauffele (USA) finished 1 shot ahead of silver-medallist Rory Sabbatini (Slovakia). Three shots off the lead and in a seven-way playoff for the bronze medal, Chengtsung "C.T." Pan (Taiw) beat Collin Morikawa (USA) at the fourth playoff hole (par-4 18th). Rory McIlroy (N.Ire), Guillermo "Mito" Pereira (Chile) and Sebastián Muñoz (Colom) were eliminated at the third playoff hole. Gold medal winner George S. Lyon (Can) beat Chandler Egan (USA, silver medal) 3 and 2 in the final. Beaten semi-finalists (bronze medal): Burt Mckinnie (USA) and Francis Newton (USA). Played as the Men's Individual golf event (Aug 11-14; Summer Olympic Games XXXI). Henrik Stenson (Swe; silver medal) finished 2 shots behind Justin Rose (GB; gold medal). Matt Kuchar (USA; bronze medal) finished 1 shot behind Stenson. The return of men's golf to the Olympic Games after an absence of 112 years gave Rose the opportunity to become only the third man ever to win an Olympic gold medal for golf. The Masters: The 88th Masters Tournament at Augusta National sees LIV golfer Jon Rahm defend his title against the world’s best. Pressing hard will be world No.1 and 2022 champion Scottie Scheffler and world No.2 Rory McIlroy (April 11-14).
Chevron Championship: the women’s major championship season gets underway for the second year at its new Carlton Woods home outside Houston, Texas. World No.2 Lilia Vu defends (April 18-21).
Nelly Korda: records a perfect start to 2024 with four wins out of her last four appearances on the LPGA Tour, a feat last achieved by Lorena Ochoa in 2008. Korda's win at the T-Mobile Match Play brought up her 12th LPGA Tour victory.
Scottie Scheffler: narrowly missed out on matching Nelly Korda’s three-in-three, when he placed second at the Houston Open. This followed back-to-back wins at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players. Like Korda, he remains comfortably ahead in the official world golf rankings.
