Aoki (Jpn) recorded the season's lowest scoring average on the Japan Tour. Tsuneyuki "Tommy" Nakajima (Jpn) was second with 70.40; Masashi "Jumbo" Ozaki (Jpn) was third with 70.92.

Tsuneyuki "Tommy" Nakajima (Jpn) won his fourth (and second straight) Japan Golf Tour Money List, with 1986 season earnings of Yn90,202,066. Masashi "Jumbo" Ozaki (Jpn) was second with Yn80,356,632; Isao Aoki (Jpn) was third with Yn78,341,666. Note: the Japan Tour Money List includes earnings from Japan Tour events and golf's four top majors (Masters, Open, US Open, US PGA).

Norman (Aus) won the Arnold Palmer Award as the PGA Tour 1986 leading money winner, with earnings of $653,296 on the Tour. Bob Tway (USA) was second with $652,780; Payne Stewart (USA) was third with $535,389.

Ballesteros (Esp) won his fourth Harry Vardon Trophy as the European Tour 1986 Epson Order of Merit winner, with earnings of £242,208 on the Tour. Jose Maria Olazabal (Esp) was second with £136,775; Howard Clark (Eng) was third with £121,902.
1986/87 South Africa Tour Order of Merit. Won for the third straight time and fifth time in his career by McNulty (Zim).

Olazabal (Esp) won the European Tour 1986 Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year Award as the leading first-season player. Olazabal finished second on the Tour's Order of Merit, with earnings of £136,775.
Sony Open in Hawaii: played at Waialae Country Club near Honolulu, the Sony Open takes over the spotlight from The Sentry as the PGA Tour’s calendar-year opening event (Jan 15-18). The Sentry (not being played in 2026) was formerly known as the Tournament of Champions, with a field typically restricted to golfers who won a PGA Tour event in the previous calendar year.
Dubai Desert Classic: the DP World Tour’s first Rolex Series event of 2026, is contested for the 37th time (Jan 22-25). First won by Englishman Mark James in 1989, it now boasts a four-time winner, Rory McIlroy. Played on the Emirates Golf Club’s Majlis course, this once desert-surrounded course is the long-time flagship for Golf in Dubai.
