Where2Golf says:

Bintan Lagoon Resort's Woodlands course, designed by Ian Baker-Finch, is one of the very best through-the-jungle golf courses you'll ever play. Its companion, the slightly easier-going Jack Nicklaus (Sea View) course might have the ocean vistas and an ocean-side hole, but IBF must also be applauded for his challenging and inspired layout. Magnificently laid out in pristine rain forest, this out-and-back layout is certainly not a push-over resort course. With jungle on either side of most holes and many significant elevation changes, this is a layout that will thoroughly test your game from tee-to-green. Straight hitting is essential on several tightish tee shots, with some blind, uphill approach shots also to be made, as at the slender par-4 10th. Deep bunkering around the often elevated greens and threatening water hazards on five or six holes will also need to be factored into your course management. Within this excellently maintained, undulating, jungle environment there are many fabulous holes to enjoy (and many monkeys to observe your progress, and steal any food and valuables on view in your buggy). The back-to-back par-4's at 8 and 9, played around the same small lake, occupy a breathtakingly beautiful corner of the course. The par-3 14th played over water is another gem, and so too the also water-protected par-3 5th. With no traffic noise or housing developments around the course, this is a fabulously natural environment in which to soak up the sights and sounds of the jungle, and carefully negotiate your way round IBF's masterpiece.

At this Stay & Play venue, the on-site accommodation is located close to the golf facilities.

Did you know?

Bintan Lagoon is an ideal holiday location and weekend retreat from the hustle and bustle of Singapore, but don't necessarily think you will be escaping from the crowds - Bintan is very popular with Singaporeans, especially at weekends. As part of the Bintan Beach International Resort area (affectionately known as "Singonesia") you can use Singapore Dollars here, as well as Indonesian rupiah. Both the Ian Baker-Finch and Jack Nicklaus courses at Bintan Lagoon will undergo a complete refurbishment in 2007/08. During this period the resort will be fully open with 27-holes of great golf always available.

The American Express formerly known as the Desert Classic, and for many years played as the Bob Hope Desert Classic, will once again be decided on the Pete Dye designed Stadium course at PGA West (Jan 16-19).
The Players Championship:  for the 39th time, TPC Sawgrass, another iconic Pete Dye design, will host The Players Championship for one of the richest first prizes in world golf (March 12-15).
Who's Who:
Pete Dye:  one of the greatest golf course architects of this or any generation passes away aged 94. His contribution to golf course design, and the legacy he leaves is immense.
Jack Nicklaus:  like Pete Dye a native of Ohio, actually started his golf course design career working together with Dye. In 1967 Dye asked Nicklaus to input to his design for The Golf Club in Columbus, Ohio. Two years later they worked together on the revered Harbour Town Golf Links in South Carolina.
