Where2Golf says:

Ria Bintan Golf Club (Ocean course): Mention the island of Bintan to anyone who has golfed here, and they will tell you to play Ria Bintan. If you want a fabulously memorable outing on a world-class and immensely scenic course, do just as they say. You may like to warm-up on the 9-hole Forest course, but be sure not to miss a single hole on the real deal - the Ocean course. Adding to its many stylish qualities, the bunkering here is distinctive, each bunker having a high-grassy lip, often at the side rather than front of the trap. After a nerve-wracking opening four holes where water is ever-present, the superb par-4 5th and 6th holes take you on a journey through wonderfully natural jungle. On the award-winning par-5 7th, you tee-off in the jungle and arrive at a beautifully framed green, the small pond on the front-right of the green blending "infinity-style" with the South China Sea beyond. The next two holes are even more spectacular. The par-4 8th plays to a green which appears to sit out in the ocean, while the tough par-3 9th is played across the sea to another stunningly framed green, this time perched above the ocean on a rocky platform, a jungle-clad hill climbing away to the right. The front-nine may well leave you speechless, such is its dramatic splendour and intensity. You can recover your breath on the inward-nine, where the layout gradually brings you back inland to a closing stretch that also contains many beautifully crafted, testing and immaculately presented holes. The long par-4 18th, with a deep watery ravine protecting the front left of the green, is as tough a closing hole as they come.

At this Stay & Play facility, you can rise from your bed in the morning and head straight for the first tee.

Did you know?

Ria Bintan Golf Club is independent of and quite separate from the ClubMed resort, which is located a few hundred metres just along the coast. Ria Bintan's Ocean course has been used for top level competitions, including Asian Professional Tour events (see our Encyclopedia > Tournaments > by Venue > Ria Bintan). This area of northern Bintan, called the Bintan Beach International Resort (and affectionately known as "Singonesia") is home to four excellent golf courses and several resort hotels. It provides an ideal holiday location and weekend retreat from the hustle and bustle of Singapore, but don't necessarily think you will be escaping from the crowds - Bintan is very popular with Singaporeans, especially at weekends. As part of the Bintan Beach International Resort area you can use Singapore Dollars here, as well as Indonesian rupiah.
