Hogs Head Golf Club

5-star : simply the best - golf courses don’t get much better than this.
Hogs Head Golf Club Est. 2017

Where2Golf says:

Hogs Head Golf Club: officially opened in April 2018, this Robert Trent Jones Jr design stands on stunningly scenic headlands above the Atlantic Ocean, just three kilometres southeast of the renowned Waterville Golf Links. The course is a complete redesign of the Skellig Bay Golf Club course, a Ron Kirby layout that opened in 2006 ( ... but which never really took off due in part to the 2008 global financial recession).

The new Hogs Head design gives you a stunning centre section where holes eight thru' sixteen dramatically hug the edge of 100-foot cliffs. The views over Ballinskelligs Bay, framed by mountainous MacGillycuddy's Reeks in the background, are simply breathtaking. The more inland holes on Jones' sweeping out-and-back layout, are played alongside the salmon-running Finglas River. These include the par-3 3rd (Finglas), par-4 4th (Salmon Run), par-3 5th (Cascade) and later the par-5 18th (Get Even).

MOST MEMORABLE HOLE: you can take your pick from any of the cliffside holes (8 to 16), but of particular note is the 13th (Kathleen’s Choice), a beautiful par-3 with two separate cliffside greens offering different challenges depending on the green selected for that day.

Did you know?

Developed by two New York-based corporate restructuring executives (Bryan Marsal and Tony Alvarez), the Hogs Head course is the first Robert Trent Jones Jr design in Ireland. The owners' simple vision was to create a world-class golf course "built by friends, for friends, for fun".

Whereas the par-3 13th (described above) honours co-owner Bryan Marsal’s bride – “an Irish beauty who can push you over the edge”, the short par-3 11th (Gail's Dare) honours Tony Alvarez's bride - “a petite woman who can be tough if you get on her wrong side". On the right side of the 11th is a 2,000-year-old sundial, formerly used in the summer solstice. This well bunkered hole plays into a cliff-side green and is located on the highest seaside point of the property ... particularly testing when the wind is blowing.
