Where2Golf says:

Kota Permai Golf & Country Club is home to a contender for one of the best maintained and most pleasant layouts in Malaysia. Along with its attractive elevation changes, lightly tree-lined and contoured fairways, and fine array of water hazards, you will also find many round and railway-sleepered greenside bunkers. This bunkering creates a distinctive look to several holes, none more so than the signature par-4 2nd, where water dangerously flanks the left side of the fairway, then has to be crossed in front of the green. Two large sleepered bunkers look on from the back of the green, as if admiring this beautifully created and most attractive of golf holes. Golfing alongside small lakes and ponds will continue to test your nerve throughout the front nine (Hicom-nine), but this most feared of hazards is much less of a threat on the equally undulating back-nine (Gamuda-nine). Only at the long par-4 15th and tight, short par-4 16th, does water dangerously reappear, with these two handsome holes played alongside the same small lake. Care also needs to be taken with your drive at 18, especially with a pond lurking along the rightside of the fairway. Kota Permai has many nicely elevated tee boxes, with several holes played from these elevated tees back up to elevated greens. The relatively short par-5 12th and longer closing par-5 18th are two fine examples where downhill drives need to be followed by uphill approach play. Although there are plenty of largish villas around the perimeter of the course, they never feel intrusive and don't really come into play, even for those occasional wayward shots.

Did you know?

In Malay, the name Kota Permai means serene and beauty, and aptly enough, Kota Permai Golf & Country Club has captivated the golfing fraternity with its charm since its opening in early 1998. Set within the township of Kota Kemuning, the Hicom Gamuda developed property continues to impress all who walk its fairways. Kota Permai has hosted and will continue to host many top-level tournaments : from 1998 the Club hosted the Volvo Masters of Malaysia. When the event was upgraded to the Volvo Masters of Asia, the Asian Tour's season ending event, Kota Permai hosted the first one in 2002, and then again in 2004. In 2005 the World Cup qualifier was held here, and in 2007 the Foris International Challenge. Kota Permai will host the Maybank Malaysian Open in 2008.

The American Express formerly known as the Desert Classic, and for many years played as the Bob Hope Desert Classic, will once again be decided on the Pete Dye designed Stadium course at PGA West (Jan 16-19).
The Players Championship:  for the 39th time, TPC Sawgrass, another iconic Pete Dye design, will host The Players Championship for one of the richest first prizes in world golf (March 12-15).
Who's Who:
Pete Dye:  one of the greatest golf course architects of this or any generation passes away aged 94. His contribution to golf course design, and the legacy he leaves is immense.
Jack Nicklaus:  like Pete Dye a native of Ohio, actually started his golf course design career working together with Dye. In 1967 Dye asked Nicklaus to input to his design for The Golf Club in Columbus, Ohio. Two years later they worked together on the revered Harbour Town Golf Links in South Carolina.
