Shadow Creek Golf Course

5-star: Fabulous – courses don’t get much better than this.

Est. 1990

Shadow Creek Golf Course: Las Vegas is a city of superlatives. In golfing terms nowhere embodies this phenomenon more than Shadow Creek. For guests staying at MGM Resorts hotels, there's the chance to dig deep into your wallet and book onto Vegas's most extraordinary golf course, previously the domain of only a privileged few.

Shadow Creek is laid out in an enchanting Steve Wynn inspired oasis, which for many years doubled as his private home. Where flat arid desert previously existed, you'll find an enchanting, undulating, woodland golf course ...... yes, woodland! Taking its cue from Augusta National, Sherwood Country Club and Pine Valley, this world-class Tom Fazio-designed layout has to be played to be believed.

During the building of the course, pines, willows and many other non-indigenous trees were brought in to line the rolling fairways and stand sentinel around the superb sloping greens. And not just a few saplings, but tens of thousands of mature trees. The land was shaped, the trees planted and the water hazards filled. The result was dazzling.

Not content with creating an extraordinary woodland retreat in the middle of the Nevada desert, Wynn and Fazio also imbued their challenging design with cascading waterfalls, stony streams, rock-lined ponds and plenty of stylish bunkering.

This outstanding collection of tree-lined holes contains many gems, among them a wonderful collection of par-3s. With European and Oriental pheasants roaming the grounds, and seemingly not a blade of grass, shrub or tree out of place, Shadow Creek is undoubtedly the crown jewel in Las Vegas's glittering array of golf courses.

Pick of the holes: the par-3 17th. 164-yards from the back tees and only water between the tee-box and a small rock-fronted green. Stunning!

Did you know?

Shadow Creek was originally created and owned by Steve Wynn, the casino resort developer who is credited with spearheading the dramatic resurgence and expansion of the Las Vegas Strip in the 1990s. Wynn also used to live in the house opposite the clubhouse and 18th green.

More recently the golf course was sold to MGM Resorts as part of their huge purchase of the hotels and casinos previously developed by Steve Wynn. Shadow Creek is still referred to by many local golfers in Las Vegas as Mr. Wynn's private course.
