Golf Club Grand Ducal de Luxembourg

4-star: generally an excellent standard golf course, well worth visiting.

Where2Golf says:

Golf Club Grand Ducal de Luxembourg: In addition to designing some of Belgium's best "Royal" courses, Tom Simpson also crossed the border into Luxembourg and created what many regard as the Grand Duchy's finest golf course. Like its Belgian cousins, the Grand Ducal is a wonderfully laid out, tree-lined course that will test your shot-making every step of the way - even if it does lack the length of modern-day championship layouts. Your short game around the fiendishly sloping and well-bunker defended greens will need to be in good order to score well here. Your driving will also need to be straight and true to stay out of the ever-present trees. The two nine-hole loops weave their way through this splendidly mature woodland, although the peace and quiet enjoyed by golfers in days of old is a little more disturbed nowadays. Luxembourg's airport is situated just to the south of the course and the main east-west motorway through Luxembourg just to the north.

Did you know?

Like its "Royal" golf course neighbours in Belgium, the Golf Club Grand Ducal de Luxembourg also started out with strong connections to the reigning Royal Family of the time. Both Her Royal Highness the Grand Duchess Charlotte and His Royal Highness the Prince Felix of Luxembourg were instrumental in getting the club started in the mid-1930s. Prince Felix was appointed to the club's first Board of Directors.
