Where2Golf says:

Ayer Keroh Country Club: It is rare to find golf courses designed by former Deputy Prime Ministers, rarer still that they are well laid out, attractive and challenging designs. Ayer Keroh (said "eye-keeroh") is one of that rare breed. Of the three nine-hole loops, the Governor's and Tunku's provide the best combination, both bringing you into a wonderfully natural and jungle-lined environment (where you might just have a gallery of macaque and dusky-leaf monkeys observing your game).

Although you may feel the course could be enhanced by some additional fairway bunkering (to lend a touch more character to a few holes), there is plenty of vegetation providing each hole with good definition, and many tall trees stand sentinel along the fairways, and occasionally in the middle of them. From time-to-time the tee-shots will feel quite tight (especially on Ghafar's nine), although more breathing space and a slightly more open aspect also features in the layout. This very pleasant and quiet area of simmering jungle, contains several elevation changes, providing considerable charm and variety to each hole.

The undulations on the course are mirrored in the contouring of the greens, with some slopes as testing and slippery as they come. Your final test will come at the long par-5 closing hole on the Tunku-nine, a mere 604 metres (670-yards) from the back-tees - one of the longest par-5's in Malaysia. With good maintenance throughout and many beautifully jungle-lined holes, don't miss out on Ayer Keroh when in the historic state of Malacca.

Did you know?

Ayer Keroh's golf course was carved out of virgin jungle and ready for play in 1964. It was designed by a team led by Tun Abdul Ghaffar Bin Baba, the former Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia and Chief Minister of Malacca (and a golfing aficionado). The original course consisted of two nines, known as Tunku's and Ghaffar's nines. A third nine (Governor's) was added in the mid-1990's. The three nines hug a lake known as the Ayer Keroh Lake which comes into play on quite a few holes.
