Where2Golf says:

Penang Golf Club: Located on Penang Island, the Bukit Jambul Country Club was revamped, renamed and reopened as the Penang Golf Club in 2012. It is not to be confused with the Penang Golf Resort on the mainland (near Kepala Batas), which is home to 36 holes of golf (East and West courses).

Villas, apartment blocks and the huge Equatorial Hotel provide a lively backdrop to Penang's tight and often dramatically undulating, parkland golf course. Although surrounded by the sights and sounds of the city, there are also enough jungle clad hills around to remind you that Penang Island is lush and tropical, much favoured by holiday-makers and beach-goers.

The fairly compact Penang layout is not one for wayward big-hitters. The sharply doglegging, dramatically downhill opening par-4 provides a clear signal of the tightness of things to come. It also highlights the excellent presentation and maintenance standards you'll find here. By the time you reach the super-tight par-4 4th, you'll either have the measure of the course, or it will have the measure of you. Providing you are happy to be challenged and tested on a relatively technical layout where accurate shot-making is paramount, this course will quickly grow on you. There are many attractively designed holes and plenty of interesting views beyond the course.

The sharply descending par-4 10th is perhaps the most dramatic plunge you and your ball have to make. The long par-3 8th also provides one of many testing downhill tee shots. Around the often smallish greens, Trent Jones has chosen to "hide" many of the bunkers, giving them grassy faces that blend into the fairways and semi-rough.

Penang Golf Club may feel a bit tight and constraining at times, but it is a thoroughly enjoyable and very attractive course. The undulating terrain and contrasting jungle and city views, add to the undoubted pleasures of playing "The Jewel of Penang."

At this Stay & Play venue, the on-site accommodation is located close to the golf facilities.
