Did you know?

The Mount Washington Resort hotel in Bretton Woods is one of the last surviving "grand" resort hotels of New Hampshire. It was the site of the United Nations Monetary & Financial Conference in 1944, which was attended by all 41 Allied nations. The Conference's key outcomes included the establishment of the Bretton Woods system and the creation of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank. The Bretton Woods system comprised rules, institutions, and procedures to regulate the world's international monetary system following World War II. The system lasted until 1971.

Mount Washington is a member of Omni Hotels & Resorts, which operates several prestigious Stay&Play golf resorts across the United States. These facilities include many well-known resorts, some of them regularly hosting PGA and LPGA Tour events. Included in the Omni golf collection are: Tucson National (Arizona), La Costa and Rancho Las Palmas (Calif), Grove Park Inn and Hilton Head Oceanfront (Carolinas), Interlocken (Colorado), Amelia Island Plantation and ChampionsGate (Florida), Mount Washington (New Hampshire), Bedford Springs (Pennsylvania), Barton Creek (Texas), and The Homestead (Virginia).

As grand as the history behind it, the Omni Mount Washington Hotel, located in Bretton Woods, New Hampshire, has been a favourite New England retreat of presidents, poets and celebrities. Conceived by industrialist Joseph Stickney, this National Historic Landmark opened in 1902 and has been attracting visitors ever since. The final phase of a $60 million expansion and renovation has just been completed, including guest rooms, public areas and dining facilities, complementing the recent additions of a signature spa and renovation of the classic Donald Ross designed Mount Washington golf course.

Tournaments:
Walker Cup: The USA scored a convincing 15.5-10.5 win over their GB&I opponents in the 47th Walker Cup at Royal Liverpool. The USA amateurs won all but two of the Sunday singles matches.
Solheim Cup:  can Europe’s top women professional golfers fair better at Gleneagles than they did in their 2017 Solheim Cup encounter with the USA. (Sept 13-15).
Who's Who:
Brian Barnes:  one of the most colourful Scottish golfers of the modern era sadly passed away. Few others can boast two matchplay wins against Jack Nicklaus … on the same day!
Steve Stricker:  three-time Ryder Cup player and 12-time PGA Tour winner, defends his PGA Tour Champions, Sanford International title at Minnehaha CC (Sept 20-22).
