Did you know?

Twisted Dune is located just to the west of Egg Harbor Township, which is mentioned in records dating back to 1693. The area was originally called Great Egg Harbour, but eventually incorporated as Egg Harbour after portions of the township were taken to form other townships. Great Egg Harbour was named by Dutch explorer Cornelius Jacobsen Mey. In 1614, he discovered the inlet to the Great Egg Harbour River. The river's meadows were covered with shorebird and waterfowl eggs, so much so that he called it "Eieren Haven" (Egg Harbour).
