Did you know?

South Shore is located on Staten Island, one of the five boroughs that make up New York City. The first recorded European contact with the island was in 1520 by the Italian explorer Giovanni de Verrazzano. Staten Island is so called from the Dutch name Staaten Eylandt (literally "States Island"). It was named in honour of the Dutch parliament known as the Staten-Generaal.
