Boulcott's Farm Heritage Golf Club

4-star: generally an excellent standard golf course, well worth visiting.

Where2Golf says:

Boulcott's Farm Heritage Golf Club (formerly Hutt Golf Club and Boulcott Golf Club): With its heritage dating back to the first golf course on New Zealand's North Island, this now fully redesigned golf course was created as the result of the 2010 merger of Hutt Golf Club (est. 1892) and Boulcott Golf Club (est 1937).

On the present site, the 18-hole Hutt course occupied the northern end of the property, and the 9-hole Boulcott course the southern end. After happily coexisting as neighbours for many years, "stopbank" developments for the River Hutt forced the merger of the clubs, and with it came the complete redesign of the golf courses.

With a new 18-hole course designed by New Zealand-based Englishman Chris Pitman and a 9-hole Short Course, Boulcott's Farm still offers its members and visitors 27-holes of golf. The new 18-hole course incorporates many of the excellent features of its predecessor, plus a more modern feel especially in terms of bunkering and challenge around the greens. The fairways have not however been dramatically widened, and still present reasonably narrow targets from the tee.

Mature firs, Norfolk pines and many other tree varieties still create a pleasant parkland feel to the layout. The greens here remain noteworthy; some of the quickest around and laden with subtle slopes and borrows. Looking beyond the course, you'll notice how Wellington's real estate has developed the ability to cling to the steepish slopes of the surrounding Hutt Valley hills.
