The Golf Guide to the Top Courses
Where2Golf says:

Indian Wells Golf Resort: Indian Wells' "celebrity" status comes not just from the fabulous resort itself, but also from its two impressive and contrasting championship golf courses. The Celebrity course, originally designed by Ted Robinson, has recently been substantially re-worked by Clive Clarke to produce one of the Coachella Valley's most elegant gems.

This very attractive and pleasantly undulating layout, comprises two nine-hole loops played on either side of the White Water Wash. Each nine has one par-3 and one par-5. Always immaculately presented, the course will thoroughly test your game, not least on the back-nine where water hazards are ever-present from the par-4 13th through to the dog-legging par-4 18th. Beautifully planted with all manner of trees, shrubs and flowers, much of the course has a stylish garden-like quality, with the impressive San Jacinto and Santa Rosa mountains also providing a stunning backdrop to many holes.

The not overly wide fairways will require straight hitting from the tee, while good approach work is needed to avoid the plentiful water hazards and attractive bunkering that guard the greens. The less work you leave yourself on the often dramatically sloping greens, the better your eventual score will be. Among many picturesque and elegantly created holes, the par-3 6th is attractively flanked by a tumbling waterfall, as is the par-5 14th and par-3 16th.

At this Stay & Play venue, the on-site accommodation is located close to the golf facilities.

It is hard to imagine that the golf courses and clubhouse at Indian Wells Resort are in fact municipal facilities, owned by the City of Indian Wells and excellently maintained and operated by OB Sports. The magnificent new clubhouse opened in June 2008. >> Guests staying at the Indian Wells Resort are also able to book tee-times at the private Indian Wells Country Club courses (Cove and Classic). >> The courses at Indian Wells Resort have hosted many top level tournaments, with the Celebrity course currently hosting the PGA Tour's LG Skins Game. >> Bisecting the Celebrity course and running alongside the Players course, is the White Water Wash. This large surface water drainage channel starts in the Santa Jacinto mountains, before weaving its way through the Coachella Valley to the saltwater Salton Sea, the largest lake in California.
