4-star: generally an excellent standard golf course, well worth visiting.

Where2Golf says:

The Lakes course at Blue Canyon Country Club may not be as renowned as its more famous companion, but it certainly provides more than just a warm-up for the headier Canyon course. Built between many natural small lakes and ponds, this out-and-back layout also contains many pleasant elevation changes, as well as taking you into some wonderfully natural jungle habitats.

The fairways are agreeably tree-lined on those occasions when the "lakes" are not running alongside. Most of the time you'll have good-width fairways at which to take aim (some could even be considered overly generous), but there are other occasions when the demands from the tee will feel challengingly tight, and the water a bit too close for comfort.

Look no further than the first four holes for confirmation of the undoubted challenge of the Lakes course. This testing opening quartet all require excellent shot-making and good course management to get your round moving along on an even keel. In common with several other holes, water flanks the fairways and defends the greens, with good greenside bunkering also playing its part.

Many players feel the Lakes provides an easier-going and more relaxing option than the Canyon, although the former is not without its own challenges. Both courses have many traits in common. The most memorable of these shared characteristics is a smaller version of the Canyon course's famous canyon. On the Lakes you'll find this imposing feature threatening your approach shot to the final green.

At this Stay & Play venue, the on-site accommodation is located close to the golf facilities.

Did you know?

The deep lakes of Blue Canyon's Lakes course were originally created by open cast mining. The Canyon course shot to fame when it was selected for the 1994 Johnnie Walker Classic (won by Greg Norman). Four years later it was Tiger Woods who emerged triumphant at Blue Canyon to take the same trophy. The Canyon course has hosted many other top level competitions (see our Tournaments section >by Venue >Blue Canyon).
