About the course

The course: 18 holes. Mainly open, links-style.
Gently undulating terrain - a few slopes to climb.
 
Surroundings: Coastal brush, scrub and woodland.
 
Designer: Original 9-hole layout designed by William F. Davis (1894), extended to 18-holes by Donald Ross (1915). Later improvements by Albert W. Tillinghast (1924) and Ron Forse (1999).

Did you know?

Newport CC is one of the five founding clubs of the United States Golf Association (USGA), together with Shinnecock Hills, The Country Club (Brookline), Chicago GC and Saint Andrew's. | Newport has staged many top level tournaments, but none more prestigious than the inaugural US Amateur and US Open Championships, both staged for the first time in 1895 at Newport CC. One hundred years later in 1995, Newport again staged the US Amateur Championship, the winner on this occasion was Tiger Woods. In 2006 Annika Sorenstam won the US Women's Open at Newport CC.
