4-PLUS: Must play course - excellent standard; worthy of 4½ stars.

Sentosa Golf Club (New Tanjong course): Following a significant 2016 redesign by Andrew Johnston, the "New" Tanjong course is more than able to hold its own with Sentosa's renowned Serapong layout. Sometimes flatter, other times more undulating and on two occasions spectacularly elevated, the New Tanjong provides a thoroughly absorbing and challenging golf outing, with many fabulous sea and distant island views to take in along the way.

The front-nine is played closer to the sea (although always elevated above it), while the back-nine initially hugs the jungle-clad hill that separates the Serapong and Tanjong courses. The front and back-nine closing sections both take you through an attractive parkland environment, where the many varieties of tree are never too dense as they line the fairways.

More than trees or deep rough, your main pre-occupation will be hitting the sometimes tightish fairways and staying out of the many water hazards; ponds, creeks and small lakes all play their part on a fairly frequent basis. The greens on this excellently maintained layout are uniformly large and undulating - getting down in two never guaranteed.

If anywhere in Singapore provides the opportunity for a "great escape" to relative peace and tranquillity, then Sentosa fits the bill. Add in two superb championship courses here at Sentosa Golf Club, and a 5-star hotel next-door, and there's little you'll want for at this wonderful Stay&Play location (although deep pockets will help, especially if you try to sign-up to play as a visitor on a weekend).

Did you know?

Sentosa island is one of Singapore's best places to relax - the Malay word Sentosa means peace and tranquillity. Here you can enjoy a wide range of activities, keep the family entertained and if you can, enjoy Singapore's best stay and play golf location. Sentosa Golf Club, and especially the Serapong course, has hosted numerous major competitions including Asian Tour events and co-sanctioned European Tour events (see our Tournaments section >by Venue >Sentosa GC).

Sentosa's main clubhouse is one of the most luxurious and palatial in Singapore, and is complemented by a smaller separate clubhouse servicing the Serapong course. Alongside the Serapong's par-5 4th hole is a tomb commemorating Chinese civilians who were mercilessly killed there during World War II.

Traigh Golf Course (pronounced "try", and meaning "beach" in Gaelic): You'll find this nine-hole seaside gem on the scenic coast road (as opposed to the more inland and quicker A830) between Arisaig and Morar. Although not on the well-beaten path of Scotland's "trophy" courses, if you are passing through this area, it's a must play.
