Where2Golf says:

Parkview Golf Club: Stretching 3km from north to south, but never more than 200 metres wide, Parkview Golf Club cuts a slim swathe through the quiet, leafy environs of this part of suburban Johannesburg. The two 9-hole loops*, one heading south from the clubhouse, the other north, are arranged in classic links fashion - the outward holes heading in one direction, the inward passing alongside them in the opposite direction. Separating the "out" from the "back", for almost the entire length of the course, is a walled creek (the Braamfontein Spruit), which ensures water is never more than a slice or a hook away. In addition to the creek running down one side or other, most holes are lined on both sides by tall, mature trees. With the creek and trees in play, and OB threatening wayward shots on many holes, its no wonder that Bobby Locke (club member and legendary golfer) was known for his straight hitting - essential if you are to score well around Parkview. Most holes are relatively flat without too much elevation change, although there is sufficient undulation to create a blind drive at the long par-4 7th. The greens however are home to many slopes and borrows and will fully test your putting skills. Although arranged in classic links fashion, this is very much a tree-lined, parkland layout, and one that will test your golfing skills in a very pleasant and well-presented environment. (* 8-hole and 10-hole loops to be accurate).

Did you know?

Among its distinguished list of former members, Parkview was the adopted home of one of the greatest of all South African golfers - Bobby Locke. He joined the club in 1936 after winning both the SA Amateur and the SA Open at Parkview in 1935. Parkview became his golfing base, and he played at the club right up until his passing. The Memorial Bridge at the 13th hole keeps alive the memory of this South African golfing legend. >> The Parkview and Greenside suburbs of Johannesburg, which lie on either side of the golf course, are characterised by leafy streets with typically large and mature homes and villas. Interestingly, on the east side of the course (Parkview), the streets all carry the names of Irish counties. On the west side of the course (Greenside) famous golfers and golf courses predominate among the street names.
