Where2Golf says:

Plettenberg Bay Country Club is laid out in the beautiful Piesang River Valley. The course has retained a wonderfully natural feel, based on the environmental protection of the tree-covered hills that surround it. With no roads or housing intruding onto this layout, golf can be enjoyed in a quiet and peaceful setting, where some of the holes will feel quite tight and wooded, others a little more open and easier-going.

On both the front and back-nines, the opening holes take you down into the valley, while the closing holes wind their way back up to the clubhouse, perched in its lofty vantage point. With most of the course played down in the valley, you can be sure that the meandering river will come into play on several holes, either skirting the fairways or crossing in front of some greens.

There are many good and testing holes to be enjoyed: the short par-5 7th is one of the tightest, while the long par-3 8th includes a small family graveyard as one of the "obstacles" to be avoided. On occasions the river opens out into small ponds, where dense vegetation and tall reeds await anything too wayward. Within this very natural setting it is little wonder that birdlife abounds, and should even allow a few sightings of the resplendent Knysna Loerie (see Did You Know section below).
