4-star: Above average course - well worth a visit.

Est. 1859

Victoria Country Club: Located on the edge of the Queen Elizabeth Park National Reserve, just a few kilometres north-west of Pietermaritzburg, Victoria Country Club has benefitted from a major recent overhaul.

This scenic and undulating layout starts with a plunging par-4 into the valley, a scene-setter for the many elevation changes and beautiful views that will be present throughout.

Victoria Country Club's revamped layout has received good reviews, and should provide an enjoyable and scenic round of golf - and a good stretch of the legs should you decide to walk it. Worth visiting if you are if you are staying in Pietermaritzburg or journeying through on the N3.

Did you know?

Pietermaritzburg, the capital and second largest city of KwaZulu-Natal, was founded in 1838, and is often called Maritzburg, abbreviated to PMB. One explanation for the origins of the city's name is that it was named after Piet Retief and Gerrit Maritz, two famous Voortrekker leaders.

Another explanation is that it was named after Piet Retief alone, since his full name was Pieter Maurits Retief. At the time of the rise of the Zulu Empire, the site that was to become Pietermaritzburg was called Umgungundlovu. This is popularly translated from the Zulu as "Place of the Elephant". Today, the town is still called by its Voortrekker name, although the municipality it is part of bears the Zulu name.
